St Mary's Sompting

As a form of relaxation from the stress of preparing for an exhibition, it was fun to just paint for pleasure. This view was sketched at one of our early plain air outings this year with Lancing Art Club. It is painted with Artisan water-mixable oils on Daler Rowney Georgian oil painting paper. It measures approx 12" by 8".

Levada Walk

A successful preview night for the Arun Art Society yesterday. This old friend sold and a few cards. It is on for the rest of the week, so hopefully there were will be a few more sales yet.

Goring Gap

The outdoor painting continues at a pace. This was painted yesterday from Ilex Way, looking out across Goring Gap to the sea. A very relaxing hour or two. It is A5 size and was painted with line and watercolour wash.

Channel View

The "plein air" season is well underway. These were sketched with Arun Art Society in a beautifully maintained garden that is part of the National Gardens Scheme. The owners even provided coffee and biscuits. All are A5 and pen and wash. A great morning.

Arctic Fox

This one has been hanging around for ages. Finally finished it at Art Club last evening. Measures approx 12" by 9" and painted with assorted oil pastels on oil paper.

White Horses 2

Well here it is. A bigger version of the recent pastel painting. The composition has been changed slightly - the horses were too close to the centre. The colours of the background are rather warm, but it conveys the heat of the Camargue.

This one measures approx 20" by 16" and was painted with Artisan water-soluble oils on a Winsor and Newton canvas covered board. Another one for the exhibition.

Gondolier

Finally finished this one off today at Arun Art Society. It measures approx 10" by 14" and was painted with Artisan water-soluble oil paints on a box canvas.

The reference was a photograph, but the treatment of the water owes much to a demonstration I watched recently by Tony Parsons. This is one for the exhibition I think.

White Horses

This pastel painting was completed over two sessions at Art Club. Measuring approx 12" by 8", it was painted with hard and soft Conte pastels on Winsor and Newton pastel paper. The reference was a photograph from the internet, allowing use for commercial and non-commercial use.

Jean's immediate reaction was that it was a bit small. Next project will be a larger version in oil.

Montana

Still practising with the Artisan water-mixable oil paints. This one measures approximately 12" by 8" and was painted from a photograph on Daler and Rowney Georgian oil painting paper. It was started at Lancing Art Club when I thought it was a hellebore. Shows how much I know about flowers.

Copacabana

Still using our Oz adventure as inspiration. This is based on an excellent reference photograph from John Atkinson. A nice memory of much warmer times.

Painted with Artisan water mixable oil paints on Daler Rowney Georgian oil paper, it measures approximately 16" by 12".

Pod of Pelicans

Another painting inspired by our trip down under at the end of last year. Our friends took us to see the pelican feeding at The Entrance. They really are weird looking birds. This one measures approx 16" by 12" and was painted with Atelier Interactive acrylics on Winsor and Newton Galleria acrylic paper.

Bella

Meet Bella our doggie model at Art Club yesterday. This is still way more challenging than painting a human model, but fun all the same. The owners  quite liked the final version. Painted with hard and soft Royal Langnickel pastels on Winsor and Newton pastel paper. They measure approximately 11" by 8"

Two Apostles

This is the first painting based on our travels at the end of last year. The Great Ocean Road was one of the early highlights. This painting measures 16" by 12" and was painted with Atelier Interactive acrylics on Winsor and Newton Galleria Acrylic Paper. Crucially a limited palette of Cobalt Blue, Crimson, Arylamide Yellow Light and Titanium White was used.

Barn Surgery Ferring

The residents of Ferring will have some new art to look at this month while waiting in the Surgery.

Very pleased that "Arundel Wetlands" is included.

Light from Window

Good to be back to painting again. The brief for this one at Arun Art Society was to paint an interior with light streaming in through a window. It measures 12" by 15" and was painted with Conte hard and soft pastels on Sennelier pastel card. The rather moody atmosphere is quite fun.
