Abstracted hairy cow

The task at the Arun society today was to take the picture painted last week and produce a semi-abstract picture from it. Quite a fun exercise and it is interesting to look at the two paintings side by side.

This one measures approximately 16" by 12", painted in water mixable oils on oil paper, both from Winsor and Newton.

Gulls

This was finally finished off  at the Club evening on Tuesday.

It measures 12" by 16" approximately and was painted in Winsor and Newton water mixable oils on Winsor and Newton oil paper.

Pretty pleased with the way this turned out.

Hairy cow

Today at my new art club, the theme was dogs, cats, horses and cows painted with one big brush and one small one. This measures approx 12" by 8" and was painted with Winsor and Newton water-mixable oils on Daler and Rowney Georgian Oil Painting Paper.
Just might be another keeper I think.

A winner at last

After many years of trying, finally  a winner.

It means a great deal, as only my fellow artists are eligible to vote. Thanks to all that did.

Sarah

Yesterday was the third weekly meeting at the Arun Art Society. This time a live portrait model came into the session and sat for two separate poses. This one was completed in two 20 minute sittings.

It measures approx 10" by 12" and was painted with Conte pastel pencils on Winsor and Newton pastel paper.

A great model, and I have recommended her to Dudley Sawer for monthly portrait sessions.

Winter wood

This was painted at the second weekly meeting of the newly joined Arun Art Society. It still feels like being at a new school.

Painted with Atelier Interactive acrylics on Winsor and Newton Galeria 300 gsm acrylic paper, it measures approx 12" by 8".

A keeper I think.

Kastri

It felt just like being the new boy at school - first morning at Arun Art Society. After living in Ferring for 8 years, I am finally in. There are some very good artists in the Society, so it should keep me on my toes.

This pastel is approx 12" by 10" and was painted with Conte hard and soft pastels on grey Winsor pastel paper. John Atkinson and I swam out to the island and snorkeled around it just about 2 years ago.

Ralph

At last this one is finished. It was inspired by watching the legendary Ralph McTell in performance at the Cropredy Music Festival in August 2016.

Painted with Artisan water soluble oil paints on a box canvas, it measures 50 cms square.

It may be a touch conceited, but I am very pleased with the outcome.

Shoreham footbridge

It was our second trip out painting this year, yesterday. This is the "new" footbridge at Shoreham viewed from Shoreham beach. After I had almost finished it, the tide came in and changed the view completely. May need to go back and paint it again.

This one was painted with Royal Langnickel soft pastels on 11.75" by 8.25" Winsor and Newton pastel paper.

My Left Hand

This was the last exercise at Art Club before the summer break. "Paint your left hand three times" it said, so I did. Approx 16" by 12" and painted with Atelier Interactive acrylics on Winsor and Newton Galeria textured acrylic paper.

Bluebells in Clapham woods

Not my usual subject, but this view from a recent walk inspired me to have a go. Painted with Atelier Interactive acrylics, it measures approx 16" by 12" on Winsor and Newton Galeria Acrylic paper.

Drips

This was supposed to have been a monochrome study, but I just couldn't help myself. A little burnt sienna and alizaran crimson may have jumped in. It measures approx 60 cm by 30 cm  and was painted with Artisan water soluble oil paints on stretched canvas. One for the summer exhibition I think.

Sailing

This one was finished off at Art Club last evening. It was painted in response to the theme of boats and sea.

Probably the best painting I have managed with the Artisan water soluble oil paints so far. It measures approx 16" by 12" and is on Winsor and Newton canvas board.

Mother of dragons

Finished at last. Acknowledging the influence of Marcus Finch, for the colour palette and Game of Thrones for the inspiration. It measures 50 cms square and was painted with Atelier Interactive Acrylics on a stretched canvas........ Winter is coming.
