Flamenco 2
This measures approximately 12" by 16" and is painted with Atelier Interactive acrylics on Bockingford paper. It follows a series of watercolour studies, with the aim of depicting movement in the picture. Somehow, acrylics seemed better for this subject.
Dome Cinema and The Sentinel
It may be a weird kind of compliment, but this advertiser in the local paper has used my painting of the Dome Cinema within their advertisement. Now I know what having your copyright infringed feels like.
We have exchanged emails, but it is unlikely that anything will come of it. Still my painting was delivered to over 40,000 homes in the Worthing area. Shame they didn't know it was by me.

Zoe
Zoe was the model at Life Drawing today. The first study, filling an A2 sheet, shows 4 crops of the pose, all from the same view point. An interesting exercise and it made try and draw both hands and feet.
The second is a full page cropped view, identified using a viewfinder. Again the hand could not be avoided.

Phlox
Jean grew these beauties, and the exercise at Art Club last night involved painting a background with cling film. They turned out pretty well IMHO. It measures 30cms by 20 cms.
The © is due to the fact that Dome Functions have used my painting of the Dome Cinema in their advertising without my permission. Flattering and annoying all at the same time.

Life Drawing Classes
I have been rather naughty and neglected my blog for a while. Part of the reason has been the time needed to turn the "Window on Watercolour" exhibition into reality. It was put up on the 08 May 2010 at Worthing Library and looks pretty good. Only two of my paintings made it, "Coloured glass" and "On the Eggs" but there are 46 paintings from more than 20 artists displayed. Everyone seems very happy with the result, so phew!
On the 29 April I started Life Drawing classes with Dudley Sawer and the Sussex Road group. They are all very good, making me the dunce, with special remedial exercises for the new boy. Still I am enjoying it, and even from week 1 to week 2 there has been an improvement, I think. Francesa in 3B pencil was week 1 and the charcoal drawing was week 2.

Flamenco
This was painted as a homework assignment on the theme of depicting people in movement. Roy said we could draw every fold if we wanted to!
It measures 18" by 12" and is painted with St Petersburg (Ruby, Hanza Yellow and Blue) paints on Hahnemuhle Andalucia rough paper.
Really just a study, but the more I look at it, the more I like it.
BTW the background is supposed to represent the Spanish flag.

Mother and Baby
The task at Art Club last week was "paint an elephant, any kind". This measures 22 cms by 30 cms and is based on a reference photograph. The usual St Petersburg paints and Arches NOT paper.
It was very well received on the evening, and Jean wants to hang it in the bathroom - now that's positive feedback!
